Listen twice as much as you speak.
Don’t talk about yourself unless specifically asked.
Make the other person the center of the conversation.
Find a mentor and ask him to push you outside your comfort zone.
Call your waiter or waitress by their name. Ask for it if they do not offer it.
Serve a meal at a homeless shelter.
Return your grocery cart to the stack versus leaving it for the attendant to handle.
Do something for someone without expecting anything in return.
Pick up trash on the sidewalk that others are walking by.
Open a door for others whether they are young or old, male or female.
After your flight is cancelled, let someone else go before you at the airline ticket counter.
Give money anonymously to a church or charity no matter how big or small the gift is.
Don’t fight to win an argument. Fight to solve the problem.
Park at the far end of the parking lot, leaving the closer spaces for other people.
Give up your seat to another person on the subway or train.
Do something beneficial without someone asking you to, and don’t tell anyone about it. Greet or speak to each person you encounter in the hallway, at the gas station, at the store … you get the idea.
At Work
Ask an employee to teach you more about her job.
Don’t worry about who gets credit for anything anymore.
Give credit to others and avoid “I” when discussing accomplishments.
Ask your peers or employees for one thing they would change about you. Then don’t argue, and work on changing.
Admit to a supervisor, peer, or employee when you are wrong.
At Home
Ask your spouse or children for one thing they would change about you, then don’t argue with them, just start working on changing.
Ask for forgiveness from your spouse or from your children.
Ask your children to show you how to use a new App.
Do a task at home that someone else usually does.
