Backblast: VH1’s Top 100 Billy Goat Qs
Date: 11-Dec-2023
AO: <#C068S1RNNFJ|ao_agoge>
Q: Billy Goat
PAX: Boingo (Jeffrey Christensen), Green Thumb (Ray Perry), Ham (Chris Schafer), Little Dinghy (Jim Amy), Oscar Mayer (Shaun Hanna), Pawnee, @peat moss, Rio (Andrew DiGiovanni), Spit Valve (Geoff), 10k John Martin, Blake J Anderson, Rosco P (Rich O’Donnell)
FNGs: 0
Total: 16
Conditions: cold, wet, and windy (but it was a dry cold, wet, and windy)

Warmarama: Sixteen PAX escaped the fart sack in near freezing weather following a brutal 18-hour rain to countdown the greatest hits on YHQ’s beatdownulum vitae. As promised, the PAX stayed dry with feet firmly planted for SSH, Good Morning, Sir Fazio Arm Circles, Imperial Walkers, and Willie Mays Hays.

Main Event: The crowd pleasing “12 Days of Christmas” routine featured a mix heavy in hip hop and R&B. The Pax moved from point to point across SEBTS campus, with run breaks for each verse.

Stop 1 consolidated verses 1-5:
1 plank hold for the six
2 worst Merkins ever and 1 plank hold for the six
3 Bobby Hurleys, 2 worst Merkins ever, and 1 plank hold for the six
4 WW2s, 3 Bobby Hurleys, 2 worst Merkins ever, and 1 plank hold for the six
5 Burpees, 4 WW2s, 3 Bobby Hurleys, 2 worst Merkins ever, and 1 plank hold for the six

Following each station, YHQ recounted a spot from the Top 100:
At #66 on 5/31/22 • Bandwidth: A suicide style hill climb with increasing burpees and decreasing merkins at the bottom was set to the “No Easy St” soundtrack on repeat of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” The brutal beatdown was rewarded with YHQ’s favorite F3 sunrise picture capturing the workout victors: B&E, Curves, Rosco P., Catmeat, Spit Valve, Thingamabob and Tube Top.

Stop #2:
6 slalom planks (plank aligned left, groiner center, plank aligned right, groiner center…that’s one), 5 Burpees, 4 WW2s, 3 Bobby Hurleys, 2 worst Merkins ever, and 1 plank hold for the six

Coming in at 63rd on 12/8/21: A parking garage was offered and declined, YHQ set up a ridiculous 4-Corners array for the Kettle Bell toting crowd at The Blitz. At the strike of 0-530, the heavens opened dumping horizontal sheets of rain on the 9 stalwarts. You haven’t lived until you’ve done heavy American Hammers in the middle of a parking lot stream.

Stop #3:
7 Y-pulls (Superman position with a lat pulldown…leaves you more sore than it sounds), 6 slalom planks, 5 Burpees, 4 WW2s, 3 Bobby Hurleys, 2 worst Merkins ever, and 1 plank hold for the six

Jumping down to #33 on 7/28/22: Traveling blocks isn’t all too well advised, but it ain’t called “Max” Bandwidth for no reason. Entitled “Haulin’ Goats” and set to Hall & Oates, the 13 PAX moved ~1/3 of the garbage park loop and found themselves at the N. parking lot gate. Peat Moss tested the gate clearance for completing the planned loop along Durant Rd or returning from whence we came. Thanks to Hank’s 54-inch chest, the HIMs were treated to a beautiful sunrise view over the crest of Mt. Trashmore.

Stop #4:
8 X-Factors (count each leg), 7 Y-pulls, 6 slalom planks, 5 Burpees, 4 WW2s, 3 Bobby Hurleys, 2 worst Merkins ever, and 1 plank hold for the six

For #21, the Quarantine “Bunker” set the stage for YHQ’s most elaborate video game IRL…The N64 classic: Goldeneye. Rules were mostly ignored, but the childlike wonder was lost on none as evidenced by Squeak’s description of the classic flag trap where a proximity mine leaves the flag capturer in consistent respawn mode. One of only a handfull of Qs that is destined for a sequel….

Stop #5:
9 Bonnie Blairs (LR is one), 8 X-Factors, 7 Y-pulls, 6 slalom planks, 5 Burpees, 4 WW2s, 3 Bobby Hurleys, 2 worst Merkins ever, and 1 plank hold for the six

Agoge, at #18, was the scene for a 5/9/22 tribute to YHQ’s favorite split personality drama: “Mr. Robot.” The concept of reality was openly challenged and a new form of Dora that encouraged fellowship was introduced. One such promoter of this fellowship, who often challenges me to be more vulnerable, made his first post on this date: Welcome Money Pit!

Stop #6:
10 Apolo Ohnos (LR is one), 9 Bonnie Blairs, 8 X-Factors, 7 Y-pulls, 6 slalom planks, 5 Burpees, 4 WW2s, 3 Bobby Hurleys, 2 worst Merkins ever, and 1 plank hold for the six

#17 had an “Irish Car BOMBS” theme at Boiler Room for St. Paddy’s ’23, but the real standout was the willingness of 29 Pax to dance and laugh during Warmarama with concentric carioca’s called to celebrate camaraderie before a drop of ale could be drawn.

Stop #7:
11 Carolina Dry Docks, 10 Apolo Ohnos, 9 Bonnie Blairs, 8 X-Factors, 7 Y-pulls, 6 slalom planks, 5 Burpees, 4 WW2s, 3 Bobby Hurleys, 2 worst Merkins ever, and 1 plank hold for the six

Down to the Top 5 was another moment of well planned or purely coincidental timing at Bandwidth on 4/26/22. The “Country Road” featuring soundtrack took the PAX through several areas far from the beaten path bringing the HIMs back to the Abbott’s Creek playground to the tune of “Me and Julio down by the school yard.” While sometimes an unwelcome auditory assailment, YHQ has always enjoyed the willingness of Pax to share their appreciation or disdain of the soundtrack. Like every good mix tape, it comes with pondering of how the listener will react. It’s time spent with this fellowship even when we aren’t together.

Stop #8:
12 LR Step Ups, 11 Carolina Dry Docks, 10 Apolo Ohnos, 9 Bonnie Blairs, 8 X-Factors, 7 Y-pulls, 6 slalom planks, 5 Burpees, 4 WW2s, 3 Bobby Hurleys, 2 worst Merkins ever, and 1 plank hold for the six

Stop #9:
The 16 PAX held People’s Chair for two rounds of counting off 1-2. On the second slightly more successful count-off, YHQ called “Santa’s Lap” with 1s hosting 2s for a 5-count wishlist. The Pax flapjacked for repeato before recovering to discussions focused on football and the latest SI Swimsuit Issue.

With just 2 minutes to COT, YHQ read off the top highlight from the last 100 Qs:

Taking the top spot is the Q that won the 2021 NE Wake Q of the Year: 12/22/21’s Twelve Days of Christmas at Quarantine. The course was laid out as a proud father lays out presents for his children on Christmas Eve. The PAX responded in kind. Each of you makes the challenge to lead my favorite hobby, my creative outlet, my joyful affirmation that I can bring others together. Thank you, all!!
Fellowship Lunch at Tlaquepaque this Friday, Oakwood 24 on Sunday.

Prayers lifted up…especially for the ones that I managed to forget in the post-Q, head cold fog!

Great work, Gentlemen!
