22 Pax celebrated the 250th Marine Corps Birthday with Marine Corps history inspired beatdown.

Warmup: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Good Mornings, Sir Fazios, & Mtn Climbers

Mozied down to the lower field and took a lap around the whole field then ran back up the hill in remembrance of the 1st Marine battle and 1st US flag raising on foreign land. In April 1805, Lt Presley O’Bannon led a small force of Marines to take Derna in Tripoli during the 1st Barbary pirate war. The phrase “to the shores of Tripoli,” from the U.S. Marine Corps Hymn, has its origins in this campaign. Lt. Presley O’Bannon was presented with a mameluke swords for the Marines bravery and that sword that now serves as the pattern for the swords carried by Marine officers today.

The Thang:

Belleau Woods Crossing: The 5th and 6th Marine Regiments assaulted Belleau Wood in France on 6 Jun 1918, trading the forest six times over 3 weeks at a cost of ~2,000 Marines dead and ~8,000 wounded. Their ferocity earned them the nickname “Devil Dogs” (Teufel Hunden) from the German Soldiers.. Captain Lloyd Williams refused a French order to retreat: “Retreat? Hell! We just got here”

PAX made Six passes across a 50 yard field.
1: Sprint
2. Lunges
3. Bear Crawl
4. Bernie Sanders
5. Broad Jump Burpees
6. Sprint

Mt. Suribachi Finisher: ~70,000 Marines from three divisions fought across volcanic sand and fortified caves on Iwo Jima. Japanese defenders waited until the beaches were crowded before opening fire. The battle produced 27 Medals of Honor. On 23 Feb 1945 Marines raised the U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi; a larger flag was hoisted soon after and photographed by Joe Rosenthal. Nearly 7,000 Marines were killed and 20,000 wounded. Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal reportedly said the flag‑raising would guarantee a Marine Corps for the next 500 years.

Remembering the Six Marines and One Navy Corpsman who raised the 2nd flag. PAX did a set of Seven’s on the hill. Starting with 1 Jump Squat at the bottom, and 6 Carolina Dry Docks at the top.

PAX completed sooner than planned so we added a little rock work. 25 reps each of the following: curls, bent-over-rows, tri-extensions, goblet squats, & avalanche

Birthday Burpees. Each PAX did 11 OYO then finished off individuals counts till reached 250.
